Subidas y bajadas en “Antes que cante el gallo” de Arí Maniel Cruz (Puerto Rico, 2016)

“Antes Que Cante El Gallo” (Puerto Rico, 2016), dirigido por Arí Maniel Cruz, es una película sobre una chica que se llama Carmín quien vive con su abuela en las montañas de Puerto Rico central. La película tiene su nombre por una buena razón. La historia de Carmín es tan ruidosa y complicada como el sonido de gallos y otros ruidos de la jungla son una característica común durante la película.

Después de su madre salió a Florida con su nuevo novio, para tener su nuevo bebe, la angustia y odio de Carmín se expandió. Esto afectó Carmín quien tiene fantasías sobre una vida con su madre. En este momento, el pináculo de las emociones adolescentes, el padre de Carmín regresa de prisión y empieza un parentesco extraño con Carmín. La relación de Carmín y su padre es joven e inmaduro con muchos sentimientos latentes sexuales, luchas, gritos y violencia. Carmín expone el amorío entre su padre y su maestra porque ella estaba celosa. Después de esto, su padre mata el esposo de su amante. En el fin de la película, el padre de Carmín muere por su crimen y Carmín tiene una nueva perspectiva sobre su vida e identidad. Hay otros aspectos de la trama como una virgen María ciega que tenía sexo con hombres después del servicio, la relación entre Carmín y un niño de escuela y un hombre quien viola Carmín en sus cumpleaños.

La cámara y planos de la película creen un sentimiento de claustrofobia que hace la audiencia sentir atrapado como Carmín y no solo porque la audiencia quiere salir el teatro. También la inestabilidad de la camera incorpora un sentimiento crudo. La banda sonora de la película cree una atmosfera ruidoso y ofensivo. Los ruidos de animales y pajaros (incluyen gallos) que creen un ambiente tan confuso y ruidoso como los sentimientos de Carmín. Muchos momentos importantes o emotivo son puntuaba con los mismo notas en la guitara. Este música ayuda recalcar los emociónes de los personajes pero usado a exceso.

            En “Antes Que Cante El Gallo” las temas son de relación sexual y confusión de identidad. En muchas formas, la travesía de Carmín es una travesía para encontrar su identidad de sexualidad y como una mujer. Hay muchas escenas sobre Carmín encontrando relaciones sexuales, por ejemplo Carmín observaba la virgen María tener sexo con hombres despues del servicio y Carmín tiene muchos sentimientos sexual sobre su padre que influyen muchos aspectos de la trama y los cambios en Carmín durante la película. Un otro tema en la película es la confusión de identidad. El centro de la historia de Carmín es la busca de su identidad cuando ella compra un vestido con el dinero de su abuela y como Carmín se encarga con su identidad en su relación con su padre.

El comienzo de la película era muy monótono y no tiene una narrativa muy interesante. El primero parte de la película es solo luchas con Carmín y su familia pero antes de este parte la película es más interesante. La primera impresión de “Antes Que Cante El Gallo” era muy horrible pero después de la película yo estaba alegre que podría experiencia la travesía de Carmín.

              

               "Antes Que Cante El Gallo" (Puerto Rico, 2016), directed by Arí Maniel Cruz, is a coming of age film about a girl named Carmine who lives with her grandmother in the mountains of central Puerto Rico. The film has its name for a good reason. The story of Carmine is as noisy and complicated as the sound of roosters and other jungle noises are a common feature during the film.
               After Carmín’s mother leaves for Florida with her new boyfriend to have her new baby the angst and hatred of Carmine only grows. At this moment, the pinnacle of teenage emotions, Carmín's father returns from prison and begins a strange relationship with Carmín. Carmín's relationship with her father is young and immature with many latent sexual feelings and screaming matches with violence. After Carmin’s jealousy leads her to expose the affair between her father and her teacher, her father kills the husband of his lover. At the end of the film the father of Carmine died for his crime and Carmine has a new perspective on her life and identity. There are other aspects of the plot as a blind virgin Merry who has sex with men after the service, the relationship between Carmine and a boy from school and Carmine is raped by a man at her birthday party.

               The camera and planes of the film create a feeling of claustrophobia that makes the audience feel trapped like Carmine and not just because the audience wants to leave the theater. Also the instability of the camera incorporates a raw feeling to the entire film. The soundtrack to the film creates a noisy and offensive atmosphere. The noises of animals and landscapes (including roosters) create an atmosphere as confused and noisy as Carmín’s feelings. Many important or emotional moments are punctuated with the same notes on the guitar. This music helps to emphasize what the characters are thinking but is way over used.

               In "Antes Que Cante El Gallo" there are themes of sexual relationship and identity confusion. In many ways, the story of Carmín is a journey to find its identity sexuality and as a woman. There are many scenes about Carmín discovering sexuality, for example, Carmín observed the virgin Marry having sex with men after the service and Carmine has many sexual feelings about her father that influence many aspects of the plot and changes in Carmine during the film. Another theme in the film is the confusion of identity. The center of the story of Carmine is the search for her identity like when she buys a dress with her grandmother’s money and how Carmín deals with her sexual feeling towards her father.

               The beginning of the film was very monotonous and does not have a very interesting narrative. The first part of the film is only fights with Carmín and his family but before this part the film is more interesting. The first impression of "Antes Que Cante El Gallo" was very horrible but after the movie I was glad that I could experience the crossing of Carmine.
